My perception is somewhat skewed now since I finished this book on the plane about 8 months ago. I will say that for all the hype I remember thinking the main character's thoughts/behaviors annoying throughout, almost to the point of repulsion. There is a point of redemption at the end that salvages your feelings for him but it felt like a long time coming to me. Maybe what I most appreciated was that even someone who has everyone pigeon-holed and decidedly dislikes them eventually finds purpose in other people.
But really I should read it again.

I don't think I've ever read a book that I hate as much as this. Every person I've ever met either adores this book or despises it; there has never been any in between. I fall in with the latter crowd. Forced to read this in high school, I wanted to hurl this book through the window with ever single line I read. For me, there is nothing redeemable about this book.
