Meh. Not much to say about this one. It was bland. I only have one real thought and it's that the author was trying too hard to keep the main characters apart. After about the first half it felt forced. Characters refusing to have simple conversations, petty decisions that made no sense with the rest of their characterisation, it just seemed like a bad attempt to extend the plot. It's too bad, I think I would have liked it better if it were shorter, but more tightly written.

The title kind of spoils the ending of the book, so don't expect anything too different for an ending. If you like historical romances or fell in love with Bridgerton, then you will probably like this book. Spicy: 1/5

A solidly middle of the road book. I mostly just wanted to get it over with, but it was cute in parts. While I found the physical attraction between the two main characters believable, I don't think they actually liked each other? I didn't buy into their developing feelings the way the author wanted me to.
One little irk: August somehow knew what a clitoris was, but not what an orgasm or a cock was? Was anatomy really that detailed for women at the time? idkidkidk

Mixed feelings on this one. I loved the chemistry between them but it felt off somewhat in regards to plot. Maybe because it was so hard to stomach August’s situation. Even the happy ending is still depressing when you think about it because being a working mom isn’t really something done then. Though I think she probably worked out a good compromise. But her father’s betrayal was something super hurtful and I was sad he never realized the error of his ways. I didn’t care for the way the black moment came about and the ending was sort of sudden. Also, I just feel terrible for Camille. I was really hoping her husband croaked.
