As regency romances go, this one was fun but not amazing. I really liked August as a character, she was independent and direct. Evan was pretty interesting for his part too and his family at least was supportive (unlike hers), there just wasn't much of a story line with rising action or conflict for me. It was mostly predictable. I did enjoy the final scene.

My Review:⭐️⭐⭐⭐/ 5 stars

If you are looking for a book that will satiate your Bridgerton withdrawals with a touch of Jane Austen romance, then this is the book! I could not put it down! This book tells the story of an American heiress August Crenshaw - who is a woman ahead of her time in the 19th century. She wants to be a part of the family business, Crenshaw Ironworks, alongside her father and brother - following in the footsteps of her grandfather. However, being a woman during this time gave her limited abilities to do so and after marriage, almost impossible. Her family are unfathomably wealthy but don’t have the respect of their peers due to their “new money” status. They seek an aristocratic title - enter Evan Sterling, Duke of Rothschild in England, who desperately needs to marry wealthy to save his family from financial ruin. The Crenshaws strike up an agreement for him to court their youngest daughter, Violet, who is much more amenable and “duchess-like.” However, after Evan meets August, he can’t stop thinking of her even though she challenges him at every corner. Their chemistry is undeniable, but if she decides to marry, she would be losing her independence as a single woman and her role at her family company. This historical romance is perfectly romantic and steamy - but also such fun bantering dialogue. This seems to be the first book of the series and I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel!

I enjoyed this book but chapter 19 was very open door/racey - clearly I did not get this recommendation from the proper romance sites I follow.

I also really liked both characters and both charcters POV alot. I also enjoyd seeing how this american characters handled british society. I also liked how this book set up so many future books. I also liked this book becaue this lead character was unqiue and i am really excited to read more book in the series.

First experience with Harper St. George and it won't be the last. I loved this story. I loved August's character so much--she's strong-willed without being uncaring. She's ambitious without being self-serving. She's very self-actualized. I absolutely loved her. There was a feeling of insta-love, which I don't always love in romances but I felt like it really worked here. It did contain one of my most favorite LOCATION tropes--a country home--but I loved the spin on it being an estate that is basically in disrepair. I felt like the last 15% or so was really off and didn't fit the tone or pace of the rest of the book and it wrapped up so quickly and easily. I would have liked maybe an extra 20-40 pages to really flesh out that ending.

Rich American heiress and broke Duke. August was annoying to me at times. Will be reading the next one, I think Violet will be less annoying
