Highlights:
🌟 I really liked how strong-willed August was and how much she wanted a career, for me, it made her super relatable
🌟 The “family drama” honestly felt like it kept up the pacing of this book. It was heart wrenching at times, but it definitely added to the action of the story.
🌟 I really enjoyed August & Violet’s relationship and the lengths August was willing to go to in order to protect her sister. I’m also intrigued by their older brother Maxwell and definitely want to read his story.
🌟 Admittedly, I was at little on the fence about Evan at the beginning of the story, but his character did go through changes and growth that made me feel like he had earned August’s affections by the end of the story. The two of them definitely had some sizzling chemistry!

Something about it, wasn’t my favorite. But there were parts I thought were really good.

Such a good read! Loved the romance and banter! The writing was also very good. I listened to the audiobook and loved how the story progressed and was told. Dual point of view is also great.

I absolutely LOVED this book! I was having withdraw from binging Bridgerton on Netflix and this lovely book easily filled the void.
Romance is not my genre of choice to read but every now and then I read one to break up the thrillers on my shelf. I loved everything about this book. I cannot wait for the second book in September!

really loved the storyline of victorian women's rights; and the steam of course!
This was an enjoyable book. I loved Evan and August, and their sparring. Their love seemed so natural. And I loved that August was a bluestocking and that Evan valued that in her. And the romance was steamy. That tension, whew! This was a fun read.
This reader has a new favorite romance author. I went into this book looking for it to be a palette cleanser as I finished another series, and I immediately bought the second book and already can't wait for the third.
August is already in my top favorite strong female leads. She's this badass and super smart business woman who loves to work despite society tells her to just be pretty and make babies and marry for money. And Evan is the Duke with money troubles and a heart of gold who falls head over heels, and genuinely wants her to keep being herself but is also being forced by society to conform to the demands of his title.
These two were great. Definite enemies-to-lovers vibes and I'm here for it. I loved that August fought every step of the way for her sister and herself, and ultimately wanted to carve her own path rather than cave, especially when the people she thought would support her do not. And though she listened to her heart she didn't want to lose herself to it and wanted her own autonomy. She's such an icon! Evan is great too as be realizes his own feelings are much more than he thought they would be, and instead of wanting a woman who would do as society wanted be wants the fierce and independent August, and even when he sees society trying to push her in a corner more than he ever could just because she is a woman he wants to be her strength and stand next to fight with her.
5 stars because I don't want a shield to protect me from my struggles but an Evan to stand next to me and be willing to fight with me.
