This is my first book by this author. I find that the writing is engaging enough but the characters aren't as fleshed out as I'd like them to be. I don't particularly like the heroine, August. I think she's a termagant. The hero, Evan is ok. I feel that he's a bit of a doormat even though he's a duke and a prizefighter to boot. I have to admit I skimmed the last 20% because I find that the big misunderstanding to be tedious and I just want to see how it is resolved. However, I'm willing to give the 2nd book in the series (which is about August's sister, Violet) a shot. The Earl of Leigh which is the hero for the next seems more interesting than Evan.

DID NOT FINISH: 89%

*stopped at ch. 14* I really wanted to like this story. I like Evan but couldn’t connect with August. By chapter 14, all I felt was frustration with the lack of progress in plot and character development.
