La bellezza e la poesia di questo libro sono difficilmente descrivibili, un libro che va assaporato pian piano, con calma e senza correre, perché deve avere il tempo di entrarci dentro, devi avere il tempo di leggere e rileggere i passaggi più commoventi e soffermarti sulle immagini vivide di una campagna islandese che è forse la vera grande protagonista del romanzo.

Stunningly beautiful. I do think it's worth mentioning that, considering the sort of book it is, the number of times they use the word "penis" is...much higher than I would have expected. 😂 It may have started giving me the giggles halfway through simply due to the sheer volume of penises running around the fjords. But that was between all the uncontrollable tears due to the gorgeous prose, so all is forgiven, lol.

Reading this book made me think, am I in my mid-life crisis? I think I am! Because for me, the themes that kept coming up were moving through different stages of life and trying to make sense of the previous stages, stability and contentment versus spontaneity and risk, and the loss of different parts of your life (and the people in it). Beautiful, sad, reflective. Without spoiling the book, something happened towards the end of the story that really disappointed me, but then the author, without breaking the fourth wall, acknowledged the disappointment and changed what happened!
