I love Jesse. These books are funny. I don't like Paul, and I think something will happen in the next book with him and I will like him even less.
Just flying right through these! Solid 4.
Again, love the plot. And I dig a lot of the character relationships. Will I be diving directly into book #5? Why yes, yes I will. As always a list of issues..
1. "The guy could sexually harass me anytime he wanted to. At least SOMEONE wanted to." -Suze. ERM. NO. I noticed this in the last book as well. I believe Suze was talking about Cece and Adam and how Cece probably wouldn't mind if Adam sexually harassed her. Not sure what Meg Cabot was thinking. Gross and unnecessary. (While we're on about unnecessary..I don't quite understand Cabot's flippant and constant use of the word "Fag". Indeed it is said by a 16 year old boy, but there is no rhyme or reason for it...as far as I can tell. (Other than to show how immature teen boys are? But there are several ways to do that without incorporating a slur into your story!!) Present since book 1, I don't believe this word has any use in these books. Same character "no homo'd" in this book.)
2. Suze on Adam. Suze remarks on how Adam, of all the boys she knows, acts the least boy like, BUT HE ISN'T GAY THOUGH! And he "takes great umbrage if you suggest it though" Yes because Adam may not act or react in accordance with traditional gendered "norms", people assume he's gay. This book is so early 2000s.
3. Suze, multiple times, refers to Jesse, to multiple people as her boyfriend. Which is...odd. I believe Maria and Father D are the 2 characters. Later on, she's speaking to Jack and she decides not to refer to Jesse as her boyfriend "because that wasn't true". But Suze..you just..several times...ok???

📚#29 in My Meg Cabot Read Through
Another great entry in The Mediator series. I have a couple small complaints, but other than that, I really liked this book. My first complaint is that Suze is slightly annoying here. She's too stubborn for her own good. I had to keep reminding myself that she's a teenager [lol].
Darkest Hour takes place a couple months after Reunion during Suze's summer break. She meets a fellow mediator, a small boy named Jack, while working at a resort. Meanwhile, Maria De Silva, the woman responsible for Jesse's death, suddenly appears when Suze's stepfather begins digging up the backyard. Then suddenly Jesse disappears...
Two new characters are introduced, Jack and Paul Slater. I'm curious about how they could potentially effect the series going forward. It's a little frustrating how mysterious Paul is kept throughout the book. I found it annoying because I immediately clocked what was going on to begin with. Anyway, I love Jack and I felt so bad for him. His parents and brother are so uninterested in him that it's sad.
A major spoiler follows, so unveil it at your own risk.Suze and Jesse confirm their feelings for each other at the very end! I won't lie and say the age gap doesn't weird me out a little. But I also watched the K-drama Hotel del Luna which has a similar relationship, so I'll try to get used to it. I do really like Suze and Jesse. It's just that I think I'm too old for them to be my "OTP." Now I would've been all over them as a teen [lol].
The book has a good plot and expands on the lore around ghosts. I imagine there'll be even more to learn about in the following book. I'm very excited to continuing reading.

Skvělá, odpočinková kniha s příběhem, který má spád a zároveň s hlavní hrdinkou, která je správně drzá i vtipná a nebere se až příliš vážně. Co víc si přát.

The Darkest Hour is an excellent addition to the Mediator series. This book reiterates that Father Dominic is a treasure who should be protected at all costs, gives readers more insight into what happened to Jesse, and introduces a couple of new mediators. This was a really entertaining addition to the series.

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this book as much as previous books in the series. The ending was good but the plot was too frustrating, and the pacing was slower.
Did Suze only like Jesse because he was "hot"? She was so looks obsessed and it started to get annoying. She also hid so much from Jesse and it was completely unnecessary. I hated the miscommunication trope. I only loved the parts with Jesse in but as usual, those were infrequent.
Furthermore, Paul was such a creep. I hated him from the start. It was a shame because Jack was so innocent. Shout out to Doc for being awesome, and Maria and Diego for being the worst.
