This is book 2 in the Chestnut Springs series. It centers on Cade Eaton. He runs the Eaton ranch and takes care of his son, Luke. He’s been taking care of those around him most of his life - since his mother died giving birth to his sibling until now. But Cade needs help over the summer. Enter Willa, his sister-in-law’s wild and impulsive best friend. She agrees to nanny for Cade over the summer. Cade is drawn to her from the very beginning. However, he was burned before. He married his ex-wife when she got pregnant. She then proceeded to cheat on him - a lot - and then left him and their son. He doesn’t want to trust again and he sure doesn’t want love. He’s grumpy, she’s sunshine. Kind of forced proximity since she lives with them. Age gap. It’s cute. I like Cade. I do think Willa is a bit immature, but she’s also younger. She is good for his son, Luke, which is what causes him to start to fall for her. Overall, a cute story. But honestly, I wish there was some kind of closure for these characters with the family. In the previous book, they weren’t supportive of Rhett. And I get their concern for his safety, but at the end of the day, he was an adult and can make decisions for himself. They were just rude and condescending. With Cade, they all let him take charge and care of everyone when his mom dies and he is 8! I get in a tragic circumstance, Harvey (dad) is struggling himself. But, this many years later and still no thanks for all you did to care for everyone when I couldn’t and I’m sorry that I ever let my 8 year old son take on that burden?! I think this is a good family that does have some serious problems it needs to address. Maybe that comes in later books?
Adorable, tugged every single heart string i have
Possible miniscule spoilers but I would personally not find what I wrote as a spoiler.
I definitely enjoyed book 2 more than book 1. I loved Willa and how caring and patient she was towards Luke. she really did love the boy like he was one of her own kids. We can see Cade really fall for Willa based on how loving and caring she is, especially towards his son Luke throughout the story. I did get bored here and there. I also think the steamy times were way too long to the point where I may have just skipped a whole chapter because I was just over it. I did like the relationship between the two characters, though.
Overall, I do think it will be continuing on with the series. While it is far from a favorite, the books are very readable and entertaining.
