Sci-fi, Hamilton, huge book fan so take my rating appropriately. Lots of threads woven together, no particularly brilliant insights into the human condition and a not subtle jab at humans=polluters.
Still, it was a fairly interesting mystery/police procedural and lets me dream about faster than light travel and other worlds plus living for a very long time.

A lot about the book was interesting, but I felt let down by some of it, too. The good: it is an intricate, complex story that comes together at the end in an impressive way. The world is very well-built and fun to explore. I can see why people like it. The bad: I thought parts of it were quite ridiculous, I can't really go into specifics without spoilers, but really, thinking back over the whole storyline now that I know what really happened is just hard to take seriously. And I have to admit, I'm just going to stay away from Peter Hamilton books in the future: too much superfluous and unnecessary sex. It's a constant theme in his books, one that I'm rather tired of. Not a bad sci-fi book overall, but definitely not a favorite for me.

How often do you get to see sci-fi, future Newcastle?

It took a long time to get into...and made for slow reading. Told from the POV of many different characters, often spread out by hundreds of pages so it was hard to remember names. Good thing I read it on Kindle (x-ray).
I did like it though once it finally got started. I think my main complaint is the sometimes excruciating amount of detail.
Recommended if you like scifi (not hard scifi).

His story was similar to some of the other books I read. For whatever reason this one was not that gripping. I liked the protagonists Sid and Angela and their stories were interesting. The story read liked a crime novel just a hundred years in the future. I think where the book let me down was the underdeveloped story of the unknown character. I would have liked to seen more perspective.

I think this would have been a better book if it had been half as long.

I got 15% of the way through this book, but it is at least a thousand pages, and very slow. It's set in the future, and is a cross between a murder mystery police procedural and hunting an alien. It sounds more interesting than it is, and things just go on and on with lots of talking and not much happens. It kind of reminds me of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. I feel like this would be a good book for someone with a longer attention span, but that's not me.

Although slightly slow starting, once GNR starting rolling it was an unstoppable, exciting ride. PFH has crafted another masterpiece, almost equal to Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained .

As usual PFH builds a very complex and fleshed out universe, ripe with detailed scenery and social/political mechanisms that make sense. The characters in play are fairly well animated and believable.

The story arc is good, slowly starting as it builds the background, then explodes rather quickly near the end of the book as the stories start to intersect and plot lines come to fruition. Many aspects of the story keep you guessing, and string you along for answers, which I personally enjoy.

Overall, I would put this among the top 10 sci-fi titles of all time.
