3.5 stars, rounded up. I enjoyed this! I didn't love it, didn't dislike it, which is kinda how I feel for a lot of the Mistborn novels. I love the characters and I'm eager to see where they'll go in the next book. This book was thoroughly hilarious but also sad at times, and just a fun read overall! It just felt average for me, like I feel as if there could just be more, overall, but I hope that this is building up to the next book or The Lost Metal and that I'll like those better.

Shadows of Self didn't win me over as much as Alloy of Law. The pacing was imperfect, and the main villain had less personality. However, I appreciated the character development and the lore.

Me parece un buen libro pero un poco repetitivo respecto aleación de ley (mistborn 4). Aún así, entretenido.

I don’t remember what was happening as I was reading it. This should not have taken me as long as it did and yet here we are.
I grow weary of the hemalurgy plot lines. My own fault as I have no idea what’s going on but I’ll be damned if you make sazed the bad guy.
Things just felt slightly flatter than the first book, mainly from Wax. I’m not expecting romance to be the main plot point of this series. I loved Mistborn in spite of elends presence for 70% of the book so it’s not a requirement for me when the world is brilliant. But why has wax done a random pivot away from Marasi and she’s still lolly gagging after him?? It just felt strange having this quite big build up in the first book of a will they, won’t they, fighting it dynamic, to now him flat out ignoring her UNTIL GOD LITERALLY TELLS HIM TO STOP.
The banter felt forced as well 🤷♀️. It’s frustrating because sometime I like the dynamics in these books but when I get forced fed wax and Wayne’s anecdotes from ye old days in the roughs I want to bang my head against the wall. I am not Marasi. I am the reader. I do not have to be excluded from your remarks and half stories.
