I forgot how flat-out weird pick-the-plot books could be. Definitely worth the read, but each decision time pulls you out of the story which gets a little annoying. Still a fantastic read she I'm starting the next book now!

Such a creative way for yet another great addition to this series! I've already loved how involved the storyline has been getting and was even more excited to be able to play a part! James Riley is super engaging and creates an awesome cast of characters! Can't wait for the next one once I get to the bookstore!

So because I need to know every possibility in these pick the storyline books, I was flipping back and forth and keeping track of my decisions WAY too much, so I had to finish reading this book the same day I started so I wouldn't forget what I was doing, and so I nearly drove myself crazy.

I do like the idea of formatting the book as a pick the storyline, but reading it, no thanks. A great addition to the series though, confusing as heck, but that's how pick the storyline books go.

This combines my love of Story Thieves with my love of Choose Your Own Adventure books!

This book was interesting, especially because it was written exactly like a Pick The Plot book. There are different outcomes according to the choice you did in the book. There were so many routes in the book, so many things to read about, so many things to connect. So, it was a creative and great book to read.

Story Thieves is such a fun series!

This one is like a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

This story is fun, though you can go through it a lot faster than the others, which could be a pro or a con, depending on what you like, or just your mood.

Very much recommend! Don’t stop at Secret Origins!

This fourth book in the Story Thieves series is even more meta than the third, which I didn't think was actually possible. Set up like a Pick a Plot (Choose Your Own Adventure) story, the reader gets to help Owen escape from Time Prison in order to rescue Bethany. Except that it's not exactly like a Pick a Plot book, because eventually you follow the path Riley set up and work through his story line. It is brilliantly designed and will have the reader flipping pages back and forth frantically. This is a must-read for fans of the series, and seriously, you need to read them in order. Highly recommended for grades 4 & up.

Making a book Choose Your Own Adventure-style in a series where that normally isn't the case was a bold move. It was thematically woven in well, with the conceit of rewinding time to the start of the day. However, making room for dead-end paths and converging paths necessarily reduces the number of pages dedicated to the main plot, risking simplifying the plot and reducing character development.

I was a little disappointed that all the challenges to get the unlock code were dinosaur-themed, and even re-used the same few kinds of dinosaurs. (I think Owen himself complained about the lack of herbivores.) If they must all be situated in South Dakota in the Cretaceous, they could at least use different dinosaurs, and it would be even better if they used lesser-seen species like Spinosaurus or Alvarezsaurus (or South Dakota stand-ins, if it must be scientifically accurate).
