Slightly better than the first but still lacking that spark that I was hoping this series would have.

“Winter is over,” she said. “And we are all still alive.”
She smiled at her brother, and begun, in her turn, to cry.

I cannot express in words how dearly I wanted to fall in love with these books. It has a beautiful cover, snowy vibes, and Russian folklore; all of the elements of a potential favorite book.

This isn't to say that I hated the book, in fact, I quite enjoyed it. There are a few things that quite annoyed me, namely how everyone was acting so dumb. Vasilisa I can forgive, because she is barely an adult but Morozko??? Sir, you are supposed to be an eternal, immortal being and you don't realize that if she goes back to her village, they will tear her apart.

I was so intrigued by Kasyan. He and Vasya had something that she lacked with Morozko. Although I could guess his intentions from a mile away, I enjoyed his character.

My favorite character in this book was Olga. I love female characters that are not your badass stereotype but are still strong. I loved whenever she was on the page.

It goes without saying that Arden is masterful in building cozy and vivid ambiences. That is one of the strong points of this book.

Read this if you like fairy tales, Russian folklore, and slightly dumb but loveable characters.

I cannot begin to describe how much I love this book. The author has created such depth in her characters and the world. I am honestly sad that I have finished the book.
