This book was good, what I was expecting. It didn’t really wow me but I also have never been a really big historical fiction fan so I wasn’t really surprised I didn’t like it. I’m trying to get into historical fiction and this might get me into that. I like that the main character is quirky a bit of an outsider and that she takes charge of their courting instead of him. He’s a bit more reluctant and I like that.
Other than that noting was really happening in the book other than the two main characters and that’s what I didn’t like.

Don’t ask me why I’m like shocked by how much I love a Tessa Dare book whenever I finish one. I just AM. She’s my QUEEN.
Penny and Gabe were EVERYTHING TO ME. They’re both so soft (even though Gabe would deny it) it and headstrong and I want more of them!!!

A feminist historical romance novel that I'm here for.

DNF at 83%. Absolutely hated the contrived third act breakup.

I enjoyed this one a lot. The romance was just okay, Penny and Gabriel’s story was not that spectacular to be honest, I was not left giggling or swooning. What really got me giving 4 stars were the hilarious scenes and the playful banter between the characters. Any scene with the animals really got me laughing my arse out, I was wondering how Tessa Dare managed to spin that out. Animals, comedy and romance? Wow. Then there was Penny’s friendship group which was just absolutely endearing and also very funny. The way Gabe naturally just entered their circle, and Ash and Chase? It was so delightful.
