Reread. This one is an oldie but a goodie for me. Cute and lighthearted, with a touch of enemies to lovers. *chefs kiss*

Lily starts corresponding with another student at her high school via letters left hidden under a desk. She begins to fall for the guy, but then finds out who he is and has trouble connecting the guy she fell for in the letters to the person he really is.
“It’s easy to judge not knowing the truth
Only seeing carefully built walls.
It’s hard to undo years written in youth
But how amazing when the tower finally falls.
And I see you standing there
All sweet and kind of scared.
And you see me standing here.
Hope in my eyes but full of fear.”
This book was so cute and such a delight to read. I thought the relationship was so nice and I loved seeing it develop. I loved the main character, I thought she was so realistic and I adored her personality and her quirkiness. Overall this was exactly what I wanted and needed right now. It was light and fluffy and in a way kind of inspiring. I thought the main character developed so much and I loved seeing her growth. The love interest I came to really love as well. He was so flawed but had such a different side of him he typically didn't show to other people.
All that being said, the writing is quite simplistic which I do enjoy, but it's not the most jaw-dropping writing out there. There were some stereotypes and tropes that annoyed me at times such as, the mean popular girl, the mean popular girl who does not want you dating "her" man or ex, and the best friend who is dating someone and is only in the story to tell the main character to date someone and is trying to hook her up with some.
And all that being said again XD :
That's just me really nitpicking the book, so just know I did really enjoy this. I would suggest it if you are a contemporary lover and/or if you want something fluffy with a romance.

Super disappointed. Loved the premise and loved the heroine's quirkiness, but the writing was so predictable and even with the red herrings (which really weren't), this was an utter disappointment. Not realistic (I know, it isn't meant to totally be realistic, but seriously? The repeated loathing...the ending...the ease of forgiveness....dumb). Again, the characters West creates are really great, why can't the female friendships and their journey as independent women be the focus--rather than having a boyfriend or the goal of getting the boyfriend? I KNOW that this is the genre, but seriously, if young people are reading this, stronger characters who stand independent of a partner should be a primary concern for authors. Blargh. I am just glad my bookclub didn't pick this from my suggestion. It is pure drivel compared to what we have been reading. P. S. Sorry, West, but I'm done with you.
Spoilers!!
Now that that's out of the way, I don't think I've ever read a book that's enemies(?) to lovers before. Unless I forgot... but regardless, this book was quite an interesting read! I saw the title and felt it was a pretty cheesy but I've read some awesome books with cheesy titles so I picked it up when I saw it.
I think the story was pretty cute. I did predict early on that Cade would most likely be the mystery writer. It almost felt obvious with his introduction as a character but even so, it really made me like him a lot. I feel Lily has a hard time grasping others' true feelings or maybe it's because I'm able to heavily relate to Cade. I've done things that I thought were helpful but ended up being more damaging to others. I think Cade's reasons for his actions were also incredibly relatable and it helped me understand him early on even if Lily wasn't able to.
I also found it really wholesome how supportive Isabel was despite Cade being her ex. While she may have been jealous, I think what she realized Lily's feelings, it was able to soothe her feelings and remind herself that she has someone else now and things change.
While the story felt a little slow, once it hit the climax, I was glued to this book. I'd definitely recommend if you're into this type of romance genre.

This book was light and fun. There were things that irked me about it but it was an easy read and I enjoyed it.
