I loved how even though there is a theme of loss in the story, it doesn’t overpower all of the happiness. It lingers, almost like it would in real life

Okay. I loved this book. I cried, because as a sister I know the bond. And I see myself so much in Claire and Mer. So, even though The Summer of Broken Rules was a bit predictable and cliche (what romance story isn’t), I want to read it again and again just for that feeling.

Stories about grief can be so heartwarming. They can show us the depth of love. The value of opening our hearts and letting others burrow deep. The pain of loss is such an incomprehensible feeling. Sharing these stories helps us put words to the pain, to the absence of feeling, the void grief fills. They address the hurt and start building the foundation for a new understanding of who we are and what love has done to us.

This story had me from the start. It did not shy away from the stickiness of life. Our main characters were so lovable and so relatable it was almost painful. There were elements to the setting and community I could not relate to, but the story was still poignant and, dare I say it, fun. Which is not something one usually associates with a story about grief.

Really enjoyed this.
