I don't know why I didn't give this book five stars! It had all the potential! I loved the couple, I loved the backstory, I loved the sideline characters.... I guess, to quote Abby Lee Miller "You were good, I'm waiting for you to be great." because that's what it felt like to me. This book could've been higher rated, but I felt like the writing style was cringey at times and it had the potential for an amazing book and it ultimately fell flat. I still enjoyed it, but I think I would've enjoyed it more if it had a sequel or something.

It good book about healing and finding yourself again after a huge lost. Its funny, lovable and nice. But also do not completely avoid the topic of losing someone that you love so much. Because grief its a hard emotion that sometimes can bring a lot of happier memories and get his and sometimes its just pure excruciating pain. And that why I like this book .OF bringing the hope that can be better and you do not have to forget about some but honor him. And finding yourself again after losing everything. And I love the concept of the gaim. And the whole family that is so close to each other. And I absolutely fall in love with the place in the book.

The 2 main characters are so adorable together - the romance isn't cringe or overly spicy. I feel like sometimes it does get a bit repetitive,
especially when Meredith keeps talking about how she misses her sister or how this reminds her of this, but overall it is just true to her character.

I wrote 'it's complicated' for 'is the cast of characters is diverse' because only the background characters are unique. Meredith and Wit are quite stereotypical, but they are still written well.
Also, the Taylor Swift references weren't as prominent as I was expecting - there could always be more ;) But whenever I saw them, it just really lifted the book ✨

The Summer of Broken Rules is a perfect new-adult summer read. The Fox-Dupre family was extremely lovable and the coastal setting really added an idyllic touch to the book. The excitement of Assassin really increased the intrigue. Although it contained one of my least favorite tropes,
(I hate when boys get in the way of friendships)
it treated the combination of whirlwind romance and grief so beautifully and realistically. Even the epilogue felt genuine, which I rarely feel. The connection between Wit and Meredith was lovely and I loved reading about the two of them and the Fox-Dupre family.
