this book is five stars in the sense that i connected to it so much, not because it’s literacy is that of five star perfection.

  • in general, i love assassin-plots and games like that in general. (i’d rec today tonight tomorrow by rachel lynn solomon if you want something with another assassin game plot)
  • the taylor swift references !!!!!!!! i just love taylor swift sm
  • i loved all the characters. especially sarah. these were all good characters that were interesting to connect to, however they did fall a bit flat
  • i feel like the whole luli thing wasnt really closed ??? i mean it was but it felt… just… ////? ya know?
  • something about this book was so easy to get lost in, and with summer coming up it fell into the vibe and i adored it
  • also, the injury on the ferry was not taken to the best possible advantage later in the story
  • also just i love mer 🫶🫶🫶

Taylor Swift songs: “lavender haze”,  (obviously) “hey Stephen (TV), “I think he knows”, “fearless” (TV), and “paper rings”

This book is like drinking strawberry lemonade in a warm summer day! This was such a precious, heartwarming romcom, and made me smile from ear to ear the whole time! A sweet friends to lovers romance, with such endearing affectionate characters!! And the family game of water-gun assassin is so funny, it makes me want to have a New England summer like that! I really enjoyed the romance, with the subplot of overcoming grief, and heartwarming family love. I thought this was very sweet and adorable and I enjoyed it a lot! I recommend this way more than something like “the summer I turned pretty” series or “to all the boys I’ve loved before”. I am usually very hesitant with giving a book 5 stars, but this was just an instant 5 star favorite book for me. Also, love the many Taylor Swift references!! I want to go to Paqua farms so bad!!

Age rating: probably 12+

I really love how Mer didn’t end up going to NZ with Wit. It is so nice to see a romcom where the girl doesn’t just uproot her life to go with the guy, but actually acknowledges what she needs and wants. Such a great choice, and provides for character development. She needed to find herself, and she did just that, I love it, and love to see it
