I will be giving this book at 2.5. Although Nora Roberts writes really well, her story lacked any depth for one. I may feel this way as I have now learned that romance is not my genre of choice. This book was far too predictable and I kept waiting for it to end.
The biggest reason that I gave this book such a poor rating is because of the "love story" between the two primary characters. I hope that if I ever have a daughter, she does not grow up to believe this kind of treatment is alright, let alone have it glorified in a book. We see Vance, treating Shane horribly during most of the book, yelling at her more times than I can count and Shane acting like it was no big deal. Right down to the last couple pages we see him yelling at her and shoving her...is this what love is supposed to look like? I don't think that Shane ever should have excepted his treatment, let alone believing it was love.

2.5 stars
Have come to expect more from Nora. Very much category romance, short and simplistic, with forced conflict that could have been resolved with one relatively short conversation. It will definitely be forgotten within a day and never re-read.
I guess it's one of her earlier works. Good writing is still present though so at least some stars are due.

This was a fun book. Maybe it was predictable, but I like the characters and enjoyed this book.

Not super Christmasy at all but short and sweet, if a little aged.
OK, I did kinda stop taking it seriously at the end, where the problem between them was that he was a millionaire instead of an unemployed layabout. Especially since he hadn't lied about it; she just made a lot of assumptions. But the audio was fine and the story flowed easily. Too bad I already had a Maryland.
This was a cute romance billed as a holiday book when only the last 40 or so pages were during the holidays. This was definitely not as involved as some of the author's other books but it was a fun and quick read.
You know what is the actual worst? When you find out that the guy you're dating, who you think is a penniless, out-of-work carpenter, is really a millionaire business executive. Right?!?! God, I can't tell you how many times that's happened to me. And every time it almost wrecks the relationship, because I'm all (sobbing): "How could you have betrayed me like this? How could you be so cruel?" Etc. Anyway it was nice to finally see this extremely common experience reflected in the plot of a romance novel. Basically, millionaire business executives, you have to stop masquerading as carpenters because we are not having it anymore.
A couple of other cute things from this book were, first, the hilariously inaccurate statements the fem. protag. makes about the experience of teaching in the inner city (apparently she did it for four years, but I am like, girlfriend, based upon these statements you are making, there is no way so please just stop pretending), and second, the title, which as I'm sure every romance reader knows was the original title of Austen's Pride and Prejudice, which is just SO APT because First Impressions and P&P are practically twinsies.
