This book caused me so much pain. I read it 4th (after Heir of Fire). I know there’s much discussion about the reading order but I enjoyed reading it 4th, though I would have also enjoyed reading it 3rd. I think reading at least the first two books before this makes you feel connected to the FMC. I feel like if I would have started with this book, I would have thought she was a bit of an arrogant prick for the first 75% of the book. It was good to know the 2 big events that happen near the end beforehand, and it didn’t make reading the details any less painful. This book gave so much context as to why the FMC says, thinks, and acts how she does, which I really liked. This book was wild and sad and painful and I enjoyed every page.

I read this after books 1 and 2, and I’ve got to say that it helped me appreciate Celaena’s character development more. I’m glad I didn’t read it first, I think that might have spooned a few plot points, but it did help me to like her more as a person.

I waited to read this book until after I finished reading Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, and Heir of Fire, and I am SO happy I did. I learned so many little things about Celaena and why she does what she does and feels what she feels. I don’t think I would’ve appreciated them nearly as much if I would’ve read this book first as intended.
Easily my favorite book in the series so far!!

I read this AFTER reading through all of the Throne of Glass series. By after, I mean like a year after. It just wasn't something I was interested in reading. Did I like it? Yes. Is it as awesome as all SJM's other books? Nope.

If you didn't know, like I didn't, this is all short stories. It's not just ONE story of Aelin's life before TOG. All of the stories do come into play in the larger series, so that is fun to have some background, but this isn't a book that I'm going to be like OMG READ THIS NOW!! This was fun, but not phenomenal, thus my 3 star rating.
