I wasn't really sure what to rate this book as I enjoyed the thriller and not knowing what was coming aspect of this book, however it seemed kind of...dry? I'm not sure if that's the word to use.

The beginning was really slow which is expected in most books as lives are being built and characters are being introduced. It picked up a lot once the girls flew to Austin and started investigating and then it was a whirlwind from there until the end.

Speaking of, I hated the ending. I understand why it culminated the way that it did, but am I happy about it? Absolutely not. I'm really glad Bailey eventually warmed up to Hannah but I also hated how she treated her the entire book. What did she ever do to her besides fall in love with her dad?

I wish we'd found out just what it was that Owen did in his past that everyone swears to Hannah they could "tell her and she'd never see him the same again" but they conveniently won't because Hannah doesn't care enough to hear it. I can't understand the fullness of the hatred these people had toward him until I know everything that he did to them.

Overall it was a good read. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I liked Hannah and Bailey's character development as the book went and the entire thing with Owen was kind of just....shit. He didn't deserve anything he got, but he had to know that snitches get stitches - or in this case they get buried.

This book was a fun listen while unpacking moving boxes! It wasn't what I expected - but it tells you about the time that you start to uncover the mystery that there won't be a happy ending. The ending is more bittersweet, and I could sort of see a setup for a sexual. I thought the development of the relationship between the narrator and her stepdaughter, Bailey, was really sweet. Also, Bailey was a well-written teenager!!!

My biggest qualm with this book was the anti-climactic climax. Three quarters through the book, I was lead to think the main character was on the brink of discovering some crucial point of information that could lead to a conclusion of the story, but it was really not a relevant part of the story. The story kept my somewhat engaged, but the ending was very bland. It was average in my opinion. However, I gave the book an extra .75 for the relationship development between Hannah and Bailey, as well as the character of Hannah herself. She was extremely likable.

I only read this for a Storygraph reading challenge, and almost didn't finish. It starts out alright, and the female protagonist is strong, but by 80% I hated it. I didn't like the unnecessary misdirect of there only being 2 (bad) reasons to change your name, found Hannah's conclusions made less and less sense, dislike obligatory one-dimensional angry teen characters, and don't understand how you don't notice the piggy bank isn't full of coins.
