I didn't love it as much as the first 2. Maybe because it focused more on the humans and less on the alien species and the AI--which is what I enjoyed most in the first two books.
This series is fun to read -- a future where life can be difficult, but people (and other beings) are friendly, and working on getting along with each other. At least most of them.
Especially comforting at this time (2020 post-election despair), to think that maybe humans will be able to pull together and create a more equal society. At some time in the future, just before the earth becomes uninhabitable.

Read for 2019 Hugos.
This was...disappointing. I really liked the first two books and Chambers continues the same great humanizing of her characters. But...nothing happens. There's no real plot. It's just talking about the lives of people in the fleet. Chambers does it really well, but I kept getting excited that something was going to happen and then...it didn't. It says something that I was much more engaged with the epilogue of the book than with the last third.

It took a long time for the narrative threads of the story to come together. But, it was really satisfying when they did.
Giving up for now, time ran out on my kindle checkout.
Having a hard time keeping characters straight and none have me fully invested in their story.
Also rough beginning. A space catastrophe leaves 40,000 dead, if I remember correctly, and with the pandemic already at 10 times that in just American deaths...

I am starting to think that everything Becky Chambers writes is pure gold. I loved the first two books in the Wayfarers trilogy. I loved this one just as much. I absolutely love she focused in on humans as they have left earth and their decisions to not make the same mistakes as they did in the past. I love the intentionality around tackling issues of grief and composting bodies for the greater good. This book is absolutely beautiful and makes my heart so happy. Thank you!

The beauty of Chambers' work is when the characters' lives finally overlap and there is so much meaning to be found.
