Not as good as the other books in this series, but still a well-written book.

Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers is the third book in the sci-fi series, Wayfarers. Like other books in this series, this story follows multiple POVs as the characters grapple with what it means to live in a fleet so far removed from the Earth they originated from generations ago, how culture should be conserved, and at what point change can be for the better. The stories of each of the characters were well-woven together. I liked how they would come together in instances; however, they were primarily semi-solitary plots that were more isolated than other books in this series. I think this decreased the amount of connection I felt to the characters and the care I had about their outcomes. What I really like about Becky Chambers’s books is that generally, the characters we follow interact with each other, and seeing multiple perspectives of those relationships makes the characters feel more developed and person-like, but I felt like that was missing a bit in this novel. Don’t get me wrong, there were parts of this story where I teared up and felt the desire to help the characters, but I think that was more because of the plot points of this book rather than my emotional connection to the characters themselves. I think the themes touched on were interesting and would make this book a good book club read if cultural uniformity, isolation, what it means to have a purpose in life, and safety are topics you like to discuss. I think it was a good read overall, and I plan on finishing this series this year.

Ahh man.. What a wonderful, sweet, heart warming story. As all of her stories so far have been.

I don't have to say anything here, she's done a perfect job of it. If you've read either of the other books in this loose collection, you'll enjoy this one. She lovingly and with great care tackles topics like death, immigration and emigration, family, and so many others.

Just read it, it's lovely, and much too short

Reread edit:

Sigh. I wish it was longer.
