Gods these covers!!! I don't know who thought of badly Photoshopping people with peculiar facial expressions for the covers, but fire them. These two look like someone just said something offensive about their mother. I don't like being accused of wrongdoing by fictional characters.
This is the last book in the trilogy. Drake Varisey has avoided Louisa Cynster for long enough as she is concerned (9 years!) and she is about to do something about it. Drake's current mission with her brothers, the search for both multiple barrels of gunpowder and it's final destination, gives her the opportunity she has been waiting for. The hunt now focuses on the ton and Louisa knows everything about everyone in the ton, having learned from her mentors - her grandmother Cynster and Lady Osbaldstone. Drake can't deny he needs Louisa's help if he is going to succeed, but he will do everything in his power to brush her off romantically.
He just doesn't have much power in that arena. Louisa is much better at dealing with him than he is with her as they roam the ton in search of suspects and information.
There was more mystery plot than romantic plot in this book but it did have a lot to wrap up. Some of it was rather dull. The scene in the basement comes to mind.
On the whole, predictable but mostly enjoyable.
