I had really high expectations for this book and I’m really glad they were met. I knew the story was going to be dark and that the characters were going to be a lot but I really still ended up liking almost all of them and I’m already really enjoying the found family trope we’re getting here. I am going to binge the entire series when I get the time because it’s truly so so so good. This book ends without being a cliffhanger which I actually really appreciated.

First read of this book, I rated it about a 4, unsure what to make of the series yet.

First re-read only two months later because I can't stop thinking about these books. I have so many annotations this time around. 5/5

u ever read something that u know is objectively mediocre at best but u eat it up anyways? yeah...

this book lowkey reads like fanfiction and im not mad. it also probably could have gone through multiple more drafts and revisions to make the writing read less like ya but it is what it is. i write this review having read the first trilogy and the extra content and i will tell you that it gets better from here on. however, if i did not have friends urging me to read on, i would have abandoned the series here. the characters often feel like slightly developed archetypes and unfortunately nicky reads fully as a caricature of a gay guy. but at the end of the day it entertained me immensely at a time i needed it so 3 stars it is

i really really wish i could get into the entire aftg universe but i cannot for the life of me have that much patience. i read this only for jean but imagine my anguish when i realized that i had to cross mountains filled with messy history and traverse through valleys containing entangled character problems rooted to mafia ties as they all play a harry potter-esque game, to even reach his book
