"family means something different with us because it has to. it's not about blood. it's not even about who we like. it's about who andrew is willing to protect."

okay so! reading this series has been a long time coming because i've wanted to fully understand the birdverse hype for years, and while this book didn't immediately pull me in as much as the raven cycle did, it has intrigued me nonetheless!!

i was vaguely aware of a lot of the triggers going into things, but idk some stuff still rubbed me the wrong way or made it difficult for me to really like certain characters, probably because we don't see much else of them besides these questionable actions because neil doesn't. so that being said, i feel like this book is definitely a grower in the sense that, if i were to reread it after finishing the series and developing a stronger attachment to and knowledge of these characters, i'll probably enjoy it more

but despite all that, i still enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book!! i know there are still some iconic characters i need to meet fully (*cough* *cough* jean moreau), so i'm excited about that!!! and i'm very interested to see the andreil development, assuming they are actually canon and not just a crazy popular fanon ship lmao

Where to fucking start. I really didn't expect this kind of book, I was aware of all the trigger warnings (quite a lot) but I thought they would be all over the place, and making no sense at all regarding the real plot (sports). I really like the slow set up of the characters´ backgrounds, it really makes you have your own criteria about each fox.

Basically, how can it not be one of my faves if there is "found family" involved? And, that everyone is a waste of society in their own way its the icing on the cake.

It makes sense that this books is considered problematic tho, since there´s some, let´s call it situations, forgotten and not well resolved, that could be triggering for some and, if not forgotten, could have affected the plot hugely.
