essential reading 10/10 intergenerational trauma x magical realism

one of the greatest books i have ever read. it's this beautiful, whimsical tale that feels so grounded in reality yet so dreamy. even if you stripped all of the incredible worldbuilding, or characters, or depth and emotion away, just the writing style alone is to die for!!!!!!!

I liked it a lot okay let's just get that out of the way. I would've liked it much more if I wasn't rushed so I could understand bc i was so confused last two thirds of the book bc i was listening to audiobook on fast speed. but also If i wasn't rushed i never would have read it so. I liked it a lot! Sounded like my brain.

Abandoned halfway through, some interesting themes and stories but overall lacking emotion, dialogue and basic character arcs.

This was definitely an interesting reading experience. Really liked it but more-so for the overall vibe than the personnages, which is a bit strange for me personally. Not my favorite by Marquez though.

I really hoped to enjoy this book more but the abstract, meandering story in conjunction with a distant/matter of fact narrative made the book hard to follow and hard to get into. I did enjoy a beautiful snap-shot occasionally, and the ending

I marked that I read it. But getting to page 40 ought to count, right? I guess I'm not in the right state of mind to read this hard read. I have 4 others in my bookclub and only 1 person finished this book! Strange and mystical, which would have been interesting if I could get past the "storytelling" type of narrative. Odd Odd Odd.
