4.05 AVERAGE

Could have done without the sexualization of children and could have seen more development of the female cast. The best ending to any book I've ever read.

I remember reading this as a student at the University of East Anglia because it was THE book if you wanted to show yourself to be all the things a student at the University of East Anglia wanted to be. And I actually did love it. Revisiting it now though, maybe my brain is slower or maybe the book isn't bathed in the same divine glow because I actually found it a bit daunting with so many characters all having almost exactly the same name and things just happening for no apparent reason and... But 4 stars anyway because I still remember what it was like to be that twentysomething in the late eighties in search of meaning.

essential reading 10/10 intergenerational trauma x magical realism

one of the greatest books i have ever read. it's this beautiful, whimsical tale that feels so grounded in reality yet so dreamy. even if you stripped all of the incredible worldbuilding, or characters, or depth and emotion away, just the writing style alone is to die for!!!!!!!

I liked it a lot okay let's just get that out of the way. I would've liked it much more if I wasn't rushed so I could understand bc i was so confused last two thirds of the book bc i was listening to audiobook on fast speed. but also If i wasn't rushed i never would have read it so. I liked it a lot! Sounded like my brain.

DID NOT FINISH

Abandoned halfway through, some interesting themes and stories but overall lacking emotion, dialogue and basic character arcs.

This was definitely an interesting reading experience. Really liked it but more-so for the overall vibe than the personnages, which is a bit strange for me personally. Not my favorite by Marquez though.

I really hoped to enjoy this book more but the abstract, meandering story in conjunction with a distant/matter of fact narrative made the book hard to follow and hard to get into. I did enjoy a beautiful snap-shot occasionally, and the ending
