this is a joke of a gothic tale
the writing is so bland and direct and no atmosphere is being drawn, the characters are already cardboard cut outs
i don't want to hate-read it

Absolutely loved this book. You should definitely read this in the fall. If you liked The Haunting of Hill House you will most likely love this. Highly recommend!

Perfectly spooky with a touch of genuine (not cheesy!) romance. I couldn't put this compelling gothic mystery down till I got to the end and it left me with a smile on my face!

this was pretty slow moving and then suddenly a lot of stuff happened near the end but it was just kind of weird happenings all at once. a lot of the book was noemi hanging around the mansion being told not to smoke and her having weird nightmares. i wish the book had had more of mexican culture in it being as most of it took place at the english (or british, whatever) family's mansion and we've got enough of english people in books tbh. i also wish her relationship with francis had been explored more to at least have that as interesting element

Spooky, different, a story nothing like I've ever read. It was refreshing and loved the main character. Being from a Mexican family, I very much connected to the cousins like siblings part of this story.

Well this was cozy and creepy. I know this book won’t be for everyone bc it is horror. A chilling atmosphere, unreliable characters, lots of detail, and mushrooms. Yes, lots of mushrooms. The atmosphere is haunting: everything described could be visualized. On the edge. 1950s time era. Badass female character. Mysterious. Very unique. I loved the representation. We can all admire this stunning cover! My only complaint is that the first 1/3 of the book was soooo slow with not much going on. But push aside and you’ll be happy with the results.

This would be perfect for pre-Halloween: but I read horror all year round!
