With this book, you get all of the good things you normally expect from Lonely Planet. Well detailed information, solid research, interesting ideas for off-the-beaten path exploration. There are tons of great ideas for road trips here. This is a book that you use to do your research at home, and then leave it at home, because it's rather useless to you on your trip. I bought this book because I was torn between a trip to Spain and a trip to Portugal (ultimately selected Portugal, for reasons having nothing to do with the book). I wanted to consider my options. I had hoped for road trips that would give me a variety of ways to pack the major sights into a 10-12 day trip while leaving time for interesting side trips. But more than half of the road trips detailed in this book contain none of the "major" sights. So for me, this is probably a great book for someone who has already been to one or both of these countries and who is looking to do a deeper dive... Or for people who really want to wander off the beaten path and could care less about seeing the "major" sights... But not for me. Hence, the 3 stars.
