Truly 4.5 stars. I feel like at times especially at the beginning I was bored, but I knew every detail made sense or had a reason. I feel content with how it ended and can picture how it would continue in their lives.
great read, especially the final part where everything came together and all things that had to do with Jesper. the first one felt a lot more streamlined to me though, so I enjoyed it juuuust a bit more. I will die for all of these guys though.
More measured than the first book but still had very good twists and turns in the storyline. Writing stayed consistently good, it was a very pleasant read.

I LOVE THIS BOOK
Honestly I don’t know how I managed to forget how incredible this duology is. The last time I read it, I must not have paid much attention because I am absolutely in awe of it!
The characters are so incredibly diverse and unlike each other, however somehow fit into the most perfect family. Nina has my heart, and I’ll always want what she and Matthias have. Kaz and Inej’s angsty relationship is so excruciatingly delightful to read about. Jesper and Wylan are babies, their backstories in this book made me cry so much. And I’m sure I never recognised how cheeky Kuwei is.
I loved having Genya, Zoya and Nikolai make their appearances, all of whom I adore and can’t wait to read more of in King of Scars. I loved Nikolai and Kaz working together, and I think Zoya and Kaz make an entertaining duo, even though we don’t see much of them together.
The story line itself in this book and the last is so smart and amazing; Kaz managing to get out of whatever goes wrong and ending up on top, Nina and Matthias being perfect and them all being the best team.
The end of this damn book broke my heart once again. Nina and Matthias deserves so much better, they had the whole world ahead of them and we’re going the live beautifully. Will we ever know what happened with Kaz and Inej? My heart longs for an answer, Inej staring at his bare hands as they stood on the bridge and them holding hands, as well as him holding her up once she saw her parents, and asking him to go with her... tears.
An absolute masterpiece. Thank you Leigh Bardugo.
