Just when I was about to give this book 3 stars because it wrapped up too nicely…I got the ending I thought was there all along. Also they drink a lot of coffee and I gave it up for lent so I was hurting.

Thrillers aren’t my genre but I picked this up and couldn’t put it down! Good to the last page!
Kicked off spooky season with this mystery and I’m a huge fan.
Ten years ago, Alison’s boyfriend (Will) was convicted of murdering five women - including her best friend. But now there was a new murder - with the exact same MO as the Canal Killer (aka what Will was accused of.) Alison flies back to Dublin to help the Garda detectives to get Will to talk.
The whole time I kept questioning if Will did it and what actually happened. And let me just say, I was wrong. That ending!

Fast book and easy read. Not sure how I feel about the end of the book.
Another great book by Catherine Ryan Howard. Love that it’s based in Ireland, makes it more relatable. The plot was great and I liked the twist at the end. No big issues with the book, only that the Garda was super inappropriate with Alison- telling her info about the investigation and letting her sleep at his house for days. Also she was super rude to her poor mother for no reason. Other than that, great book!
This was a real 'can't put down thriller' which had me gripped from start to finish, in fact I ended up staying up way later than I should have to read the final 50 pages and find out exactly what happened at the denouement of the story.
Alison has done her best to escape her past, a devastating series of murders during her first year at university which culminated in her boyfriend being arrested as a serial killer. Ten years later and Will Hurley 'the Canal Killer' is behind bars but young girls have started dying in the same way. Is it a copycat or has the wrong man been convicted? Will has information but the only person he will share it with is Alison.
This is a well written, fast paced book which takes you right into the heart of Dublin student life, albeit at a fictional university. Ali is a compelling character and I cared very much that her story was resolved one way or another, it's hard not to see the magnetism that her and Will's relationship once had and the power of the guilt and sorrow Alison feels which draws her back.
The mixture of the thrilling aspect (which can have elements of 'really, would that happen?' at times) and the emotional journey into her past which Alison embarks on made for a book I just couldn't put down. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Did NOT see that coming. This author is *chef's kiss* in their writing style, character development and the way they allow the narrative to unfold. Wow.
