I’m all for fast paced books, but there’s a line. When it’s so fast paced that it feels like nothing has happened even though it s been nonstop action since page 1, you’ve taken it too far. I found the parts when
Tris and Tobias were being held captive in the Erudite headquarters
the most interesting part of the book and it only lasted a couple chapters!!! The ending almost makes me want to attempt the third book, but I’m not so sure. It’s so close to being amazing it’s just… not quiiiiite there

After reading Divergent, the first book in the series, I had really high expectations for this book and it certainly lived up to them. I guess a lot of people have mixed opinions about this book but I absolutely loved what Veronica Roth did with it. I'm so excited about finishing it that I'm not even sure what I'm trying to say about it, oh dear.

Insurgent, obviously carries on where we left off in Divergent, the factions are in some sort of war, namely Erudite with the help of Dauntless Traitors verses mainly Abnegation and anybody else who gets in their way. Their goal? To destroy information that may taint and destroy their world and anybody who knows about it, hence the war against Abnegation, the leaders of the city. Pretty good plot, right?

I have so many thoughts whizzing about my head after reading this so I'm just going to throw them your way and hopefully you can make sense of them. There were certainly ups and downs, parts I didn't enjoy as much as others, but isn't every book like that? I found myself howling with laughter at the part when Tris was high on the Amity peace serum and crying when things I didn't expect happened. Another thing is that whilst reading Divergent, I was so sure that Tobias was perfect and lovely and could do nothing to change my opinion of him but I wasn't so sure this time around. He was so quick to blame Tris for everything and didn't believe a word she told him, well not until the end anyway, and I was getting really impatient and annoyed with him for not trying to see things from her perspective, of course she was being reckless because of the guilt she was feeling but I mean come on, wake up Tobias and realise what you've got, okay???? She may not be perfect but she's trying to find a way to make her feel better after everything she's been through and maybe risking her life is the only way that she can do that. Another thing, Caleb, talk about traitor, boy was I mad with this guy! Trust me, if he was a real person I wouldn't have minded giving him a slap! Anyway, moving on, there were parts of the book that had me sitting on the edge of my seat, I won't say what because I don't want to ruin it for others who'd like to read it but oh my god, go read it now if you haven't! The book ends with a magnificent cliffhanger which has left me wanting more so I can't wait to get my hands on Allegiant!

Although absolutely none of what I just said makes sense, you all need to know that this is such a wonderful book. It's one of those books that you start reading and don't want to put down. I need to ask myself again why I've waited so long to begin reading this series, it's so truly amazing and it's the kind of thing that I love reading but I put it off for so long and now I wish I hadn't. I should have read it the first time that I ever considered picking it up, I would have made a great decision if I had.

Rating: 5/5 - I really loved this book as much as I loved the first book in the series. It was so captivating and I can't wait to read Allegiant.

3.5 ⭐️ - It was all over the place and pretty confusing at times. I also think this book could’ve been a lot shorter, but overall i still found myself able to enjoy it.
