If you’re a fan of Avatar then I would highly recommend picking this book up. While it’s not integral to plot, these additional comics add a lot of additional background and nuance to what happens in the show. The Lost Adventures is compiled of the original comics that appeared in the Nickelodeon magazine while the show was still airing. Broken down into Books 1-3, like the show, we get to see scenes that take place in between the episodes.⁣

This is a compilation of comics from many authors and artists. Some interpretations felt a little more canon and accurate than others, but I liked getting to see more “behind the scenes” and little stories that didn’t make it into the show. A lot of what’s in here is just for fun, but there are a few that show some real depth to the characters and help develop them even more.⁣

I particularly appreciated the several comics that take place between Books 2 and 3, while Aang is unconscious. The show skips this part, but it was interesting to see how the Gaang fared in between seasons. We see Katara and how she’s trying to remain optimistic and save Aang. We also see Sokka and how he comes up with the plan to commandeer the Fire Nation ships which they start Book 3 on. And we get to see how things are going with Zuko and Azula. This was especially interesting because we got to understand their sibling relationship a lot more. ⁣

I really enjoyed the comics in Book 3 as well. We got to see a lot more adventures in the Fire Nation, and a lot more of some of our favorite characters who didn’t get enough screen time. These include Mai and Ty Lee, The Duke, Teo, Haru, King Bumi, Master Piandao, Jeong Jeong, Pakku, and Uncle Iroh! We even see an additional battle against Combustion Man, and a flashback to Aang’s time before the war with Kuzon!⁣

Overall I thought this was really fun and interesting! It definitely gave me a greater appreciation for the show, and added to my understanding of the Avatar world. I think The Lost Adventures would be a great read for anyone who’s a fan of Avatar the last Airbender! ⁣

Reread Dec. 2022: Sokka is still the greatest. RIP Private Wang.

Sokka is the greatest, you can't tell me otherwise.

If you are an ATLA/TLOK fan, this is a must read. It was so cute, and an amazing expansion on the already amazing show. Some of the illustrations were iffy, but that's just my personal preferences. Seriously amazing.

Fun, short vignettes! A few helped fill in the story of the TV show, a few added to the characterization, and others were pure fun! Check it out if you are a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender!

I could read about Sokka’s goofy shenanigans for hours. This temporarily fills up the hole in my heart for more atla content.

I cannot believe it took me this long to read this? I've loved both atla and Lok from a very young age till now and this collection was absolutely perfect. They felt as fillers of if not actually whole episodes that could of been adapted to the series! Would reread and recommend VERY strongly to any fan of atla!
