4.5 Star Review: Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite fairy tale and I am a huge Skye Warren fan. Combine these two and you have magic!

The opening of this book was shocking *singing* in the most delightful way! In the first few pages, I knew I was in for a wildly sexy read, and this book delivered!

Erin and Blake have a unique love story. The young, beautiful, and bright graduate student, Erin, who was in desperate need of money cleaned houses. She worked for Blake, a former military man whose face was half burned from an IED. He is a lost and angry soul who had no desire to return to the living world until Erin. Blake's brilliant mind and chiseled body were brought back into life through his relationship with Erin. Their relationship was a taboo one. Blake was fifteen years her senior and a professor at her university. I love Skye's ability to add taboo elements to her books that still have you completely rooting for the characters. There is also a glorious amount of kink, which I will let you dear read discover on your own. When using taboo or kinks Skye never makes her stories feel creepy or wrong, which is essential to me! It only adds an element of fun and naughtiness! It creates a new type of intimacy between the characters.

The way Erin looks at Blake makes the reader forget his beastly looks and disfigurement. We hear other people make fun of him, but she is loyal and loving from the beginning. Their feelings for one another is merely beautiful. Blake cared for her in a way she had never felt. These two people who completed the other were constantly struggling with their inner demon of self-doubt. Both feared, for extremely different reasons, that they were not good enough for the other. At one time each had been abandoned and made to feel worthless. They both carried that scar that made them fit so wonderfully together.

I loved part one of this love story. There was angst, struggles, villains, secrets, and lots of super hot lovemaking. I'm sure there is a more eloquent way of phrasing it, but it is what it is. I know this is labeled as erotic romance, but this is not erotic in the way that some authors take it. This story is about love. Sex in their relationship is based on mutual respect, understanding, the desire to comfort, and show the depth of their feelings to the other.

Be warned this ending was heartbreaking. Which leaves me to the negative. I feel there is really only one, this duet should have been one book. I was lucky to have both books at one time, so it wasn’t too bad for me! Lol I can't imagine those who read it as a serial. Due to its original serial nature there seem to be minimal gaps in the story, which is more apparent in book two, Falling for the Beast, but overall this is a very minor complaint.

Get ready to fall in love with Erin and Blake and know book two is only a week away!

RTC: I have a feeling after I read Falling For the Beast this will become a 5⭐️ but this book just ended! 🥺

It was all about smut and 0 plot or character-driven. All I knew about the characters were their names and partial of what they do. As well they had 15 years of age gap. Other than that, I had no connection or feelings to this book. FMC seems to be shy and MMC seems very open. But then FMC suddenly grows confidence and MMC feels not deserving of her and is very insecure. Almost too insecure for the conversation they have to make any sense. I was trying to push through to 50% and see if there might be a change. But for now, this is a DNF. Never know what the future brings.

DNF 38% not feeling it. Character driven and lots of smut and not much substance or gritty plot. Basically a broke college student who is a house cleaner of a ex military and professor who suffered some body horror injuries on duty and has some demons hiding in his house working from home. Gets and opportunity to work on the college campus and takes it with the push from FMC. First day bang in the office and then a female professor seduces him In front of the FMC and a jealousy dynamic comes in.
Fast paced, I also can’t picture what the characters look like as brief descriptions. I don’t know the FMC age. The FMC seemed innocent in the first few chapters and then confident to jump him. Just not for me at the point in time may pick up again in the future.

Beauty and the Professor
A Modern Fairy Tale Duet, Book 1
By: Skye Warren
Narrated by: Stephen Dexter, Lia Langola

Beauty and the Professor is not what I expected. What I expected was the same old cookie cutter story paralleling Beauty and the Beast. While there is a few similarities, this story is much it's own. Erin is working her way through college as a maid. Blake is a recluse, military vet and between the two, their attraction is explosive. This book heats up immediately. The steam is high, but it's when the story begins to be told that I was hooked. Blake's history is one I have such respect for, and his honor and intelligence is what made me fall for him. He is damaged, but not so much that he can't be healed. Erin is young, but full of spunk. I think she proves that maturity isn't always part of age. Add in the job of professor, the student, and Blake's old girlfriend Meredith and we get some real sparks flying. The story is rich and hot and the cliffhanger has left me watching for the second part of this duet to release.

Stephen Dexter and Lia Langola are an amazing team. For this, Dexter is cast perfectly. Blake is a grouchy man, a little bitter and needs some attention. Dexter uses his voice to give us that growlie, scarred vet, a slightly feel sorry for himself tone and makes you sympathize with him. He can turn the heat on and add a little alpha sound when he is adding the steam too! Langola easily voices Erin. The strong, independent student with compassion and love comes through with the inflections of her voice. They compliment each other well and really bring this modern fairy tale to life.

It's been a while since I've had the chance to sit down with a book by Skye Warren, but not so long that I'd forgotten how good her writing is and how quickly she pulls the reader into the story. Anyway, I expected good things with this book and I got them. There are several reasons to like this Beauty and the Professor. First, it's hot enough that I think I was blushing even with earbuds so no one else could hear. Thankfully, those earbuds were wireless, so I didn't have to worry about spontaneous combustion as those scenes heated up. Then, there's the brilliant cover. I absolutely love that cover, and in my opinion, it's worth a star all on its own. Next, we have the storyline. Okay, we all know the basics of the fairytale, so it's really about the characters. These have terrific chemistry, and it doesn't take them long to start falling for each other. Skye Warren takes it a bit further, and we have characters with a lot of self-doubt and low self-esteem. The reasons for each are different, but they both need and deserve some TLC and a place to feel safe and loved. Last but certainly not least is the narration. Both Stephen Dexter and Lia Langola do such a good job with this book. Every emotion comes through in their performances - whether it's a tug on the heartstrings or some of that earlier-mentioned heat or everything in between, it all comes through loud and clear. That sums it up without too much detail. Well, except the ending, which is a cliffy, of course. I knew to expect it since this is the first in a duet, and it wasn't hard to figure out the gist of what would happen, but I wasn't expecting every part of that. Yep, that's right, no spoilers! I would suggest you give this one a gander if you haven't already and find out the missing details for yourself.
