An interesting look at someone who is so into their job that they're blissfully unaware of so much that is going on around them. Quite a different vibe than Never Let Me Go but enjoyable in its own right. It's not a fast-paced book, but I enjoyed it for what it was.
i know this is considered one of his better works but i am not a fan at all....rating it a three because i refuse to give ishiguro less than that but also don't think it's worth anything higher. there's too much inner dialogue and no emotional hook

What a delightful book. Full of British charm, we move through in what I thought was quite an unexpected way, but one that made perfect sense with the themes and development of the story. It's provided me a great desire for the third Downton Abbey movie, being also set in the post-war period of downsizing great estates.
I've noticed a certain atmosphere that's set every time I read a book by Kazuo Ishiguro. Regardless of the nature of the story, that unique hint of gloom in the air is always how I imagine it.
