I listened to the audiobook today. Decent thriller. I love Brittany Pressley as a narrator. Henry was a depressed artist who was laid off and had an apartment that he used as a studio and ended up dead. His wife moved into the studio to figure out what happened to him. The cast of characters at The Sycamores where most of the book takes place is somewhat comical, a little bit sad and as the mystery comes together very suspenseful.

Probably 4.5 stars! My first book by this author and I now plan to work my way through her backlist. I thought this would be standard domestic thriller/suspense but it ended up being a lot darker and more emotional. The book is set in a rundown motel turned apartment complex which has become a landing place for quirky characters who are down on their luck. The story revolves around a suicide which turns out to be a murder. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I didn't.

Overall certainly entertaining. I wouldn't say it was particularly enthralling but did have a decent twist. I'm a sucker for a good twist.

I struggled to stay engaged with this book from the start - I feel like it took me twice as long as it normally does to finish a book. I was curious enough to want to finish & learn the answers, but the pace was slow & I felt distracted.

I listened to the audiobook and I thought the narrators were really good. The story was very suspenseful. I think a little too much coincidences happened but I still enjoyed listening to this.

Wow! I enjoyed reading this twisty story and loved Cass. The synopsis led me to think that Anna would be the main character but it’s Cass who propels the story. Told from both women’s viewpoint but Anna reads like more of a secondary character. I loved the inhabitants of The Sycamores and honestly, it was nice to read a story about ordinary, every day characters rather than rich ones.

It was a little anticlimactic. I think I would have liked it more if I didn’t spend so much time disliking Cass.
