Alice in Wonderland is a classic children's tale about a young girl who falls int the magical and wonderful world of Wonderland. She's a very intelligent and somewhat spoilt young girl, and therefore the experience is both fascinating and frustrating for her at all points.

I have heard it said by many that Alice in Wonderland is a book or story that they just could not get into but for me it's a story I grew up having read to me. I remember being very young and wishing I could go to Wonderland, much like Narnia and later Hogwarts. Wonderland is actually not one of the nicest fantasy worlds and there's a lot which happens within it which has darker tones or sentiments. However, upon rereading this book now as an adult and comparing it to my childhood experience I find there is nothing lacking and probably more gained.

This book is quite well-loved now by people all over and part of the reason for this is the many adaptations we've seen over the years such as the Disney film, the Tim Burton Adaptation and various games such as American McGee's Alice. These all take a different approach to the story which I find fascinating because it's such a short book. The reason each of these interpretations can be so fleshed out and vivid whilst also putting a different spin on each story is because there's actually not a whole lot of description within the book for the 'true' look and feel of things. We get a lot of internal thoughts from Alice about the unusual circumstances she finds herself in, but we do not get a huge amount of vivid world-building and thus the world is left entirely to your own imagination and creativity!

I personally love the Wonderland world for the craziness and fun that we have within it. Who would ever have thought that the best way to get red roses was to simply paint them? We have so many wonderful characters who are now iconic such as the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit, Alice herself and The Blue Caterpillar. Each of them (excluding Alice) actually doesn't feature for that long in the story itself, but it's so wonderfully crazy and fun that the imagination of children and adults alike have been captured by these small descriptions and the dialogue creates these vast and whimsical personalities which we all know today (150 years on!)

There's a lot of nonsense within this book too of course and a lot of play on words so if you do not enjoy that sort o thing then this is a book you'll want to stay away from. However if you have read anything like Dr. Seuss or Lewis Carroll before you'll enjoy this for sure because whilst much of it does seem bonkers, there is always hidden meanings, puns, fun and thoughts for your mind to dwell on. I love the poems and stories from within this and rereading them I could still remember some of them today!

On the whole this is a very fun, slightly insane, questionably nice book which I believe you;ll either enjoy or not. I really loved this book because of the way I imagined it all as a child and later as an adult but I can see why it would be lacking in some areas too. It's a wonderful book with some wonderful characters, wording and fun, but it's also a weird one, and that's all there is to say :) I'd recommend it for sure!

`Have you guessed the riddle yet?' the Hatter said, turning to Alice again.

`No, I give it up,' Alice replied: `what's the answer?'

`I haven't the slightest idea,' said the Hatter.

I have always loved Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and thought it was great on audio.  I also finally understand the hype about Jim Dale as a narrator, as this was the first audiobook that I listened to that he narrated.

Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Surface-level absurdism. Lots of characters throwing insults, objects, or threats at each other for no reason. I had hoped for a lot more. The stars are for the descriptions.

this was -surprisingly- a better book than I thought it would be, :))

I forgor.

Still one of my favorite childhood stories ever.

I reread just to remember. It's definitely a children's book, and I couldn't stop comparing it to the Disney & Tim Burton movies. I didn't love it enough to continue on to Through The Looking Glass.
