Lover Avenged

4.14 AVERAGE

I found this book faster paced than a couple of the previous. which was a good thing because I really didn't want this to become a "I think I'll put this down and come back to it.... or not" kind of series.
it wasn't totally choked out with sex, which gets old but if wasn't so detailed in the plot that it got tiring. I found the book well balanced.
I've begun Lover Mine and I think I'll be continuing the series.

 5 stars…

Rehvenge is such a fucking bad ass. And I actually like Ehlena so that’s always nice. Bella did the first right thing she’s ever fucking done in this whole series and omfg John and Xhex are such a god damn disaster and I can’t wait for their book next. I love my baby John. He’s probs tied for my #1 slot of boys and he better get the biggest happily ever after you’ve ever seen or I’ll go Rhage on these bitches.

4/5 on spice. 4/5 on kink. 2/5 on tears. That princess is WILD.

Ranking of my fav BDB men:
1. Vishous (with Dr. Jane)
2. Zsadist (with Bella - the worst bitch of the series)
3. Rhage (with Mary)
4. Wrath (with Beth)
5. Rehvenge (Ehlena)
6. Butch (with Marissa - should probs be V)
7. Phury (with Cormia - poor girl)
8. TBD

This is a tough one for me to rate. I really enjoyed the story and the characters (Rehv and Ehlena are adorable), but I can’t say I recommend it to others. In particular, this one has been pretty nasty as far as transphobia and misogyny go, so I want to warn for that as well as say that there is an abundance of rape. So, viewer discretion. I enjoyed it, but I acknowledge there are aspects that are problematic.

I enjoyed this book in this series! However as the series continues I'm finding that I don't really enjoy the pacing of these books as much! I wish there was more focus on the romances as the center of the novel and less on all the other outside forces and other perspectives that I just don't have any interest in! That being said I did find Elehna and Rehvenge's story was heartwarming and exciting to read.

Even though they didn't get as much page time together as I would have wanted I still enjoyed watching their relationship grow! I think that both of them really deserved the other after all that they have been through! And there is nothing that I love more that watching two people that love each so much go to the ends of the earth to take care of their mate! Overall I really enjoyed the story just wish the pacing a bit better.

A weak story sprinkled with some toxic masculinity and you've got the bones that make up this instalment of the BDB series.

While Lover Avenged has a vastly better pace and idea surrounding it, it still has simple fundamental flaws that have plagued this series since the start.
dark emotional tense medium-paced

These books aren’t amazing, but I feel compelled to keep reading them. I wish the narrator was better, so I might switch back to print… his voice grates on me.

3,5*

"You don't follow me."

"You stupid fool," V said with total exhaustion. "You're the king. We all must follow you."

Let the quarantine comfort re-reads continue!

Where the last book felt like three books in one, a much more cohesive plot lies at the center of this book: a blind king and his failing kingdom and a flailing drug lord and his burdens. And, of course, all couples involved are Going Through It.

The background of this book is just as difficult as the foreground. John Matthew is still getting quite an emotional browbeating, but Blay has faded to the sidelines of Obscured Gay Yearning. (I have never felt more happiness than when Saxton strolled into the Mob Boss Scene, ready to fuck shit up, kiss Blay, and make Qhuinn Realize Things.) To sum up the other brothers: Tohr is trying to waste away, Butch is still aggressively Catholic, Rhage is still plowing through Tootsie pops, Lassiter is trying to watch TV, Z is changing diapers, and Phury is largely absent.

Wrath is struggling with blindness, both of the metaphorical and the literal variety, and his relationship with Beth. Rehv and Ehlena are trying to get together despite the many things conspiring to tear them apart. John is trying to fuck Xhex out of his system. Lash has blown up and is now acting like he don't know nobody.

Things I loved: Ehlena and Rehv. Rehv, Xhex, iAm, & Trez and their fucked up family. Rehv's genuine respect for sex workers. Xhex scooping a man's eyes out like balled melon. Xhex cutting off another man's penis and shoving it into his mouth before slitting his throat. Xhex's grudging respect for the goths. Xhex . . . just . . . Xhex. Lash and his delightfully horrible Antichrist routine ("I'm Lash but you can call me God." HeLLO! I have entered the chat). Scorpion earrings. Sympaths crying tears of blood. Nalla, Bella, Rehv, and generational healing. Lassiter! Jay Gatsby Saxton the "cocksucking cousin" arriving to kiss Blay and start shit. "Fists are for kings but the queen gets the daggers." Rhage does "not believe in vegetables." George and his silky ears.

Things I hated: Lash contacting the sympath king by EMAIL. Lash stabbing a pizza delivery man. Lash being a homophobe and a generally terrible person (the hot villain aesthetic is ruined! Ruined! on him. Band of Bastards, you're sorely needed). Tohr and Xhex tag teaming to curb-stomp John Matthew in the heart. Not enough Blaylock content. Having to read this sentence: "John barely paused as he signed, This isn't home. It's a house." HALF sister.

To sum: It's a good book, and I like the story, and I like the characters, and I'm now so seriously invested in the outcome of the war that I started reading Lesser chapters.

“How long did it take for you to kill her, Grady? How long?”

In full panic, he moaned and thrashed, his blood staining the white snow red.

“How long, motherfucker?” She sliced through the waistband of his Emporio Armani boxers. “How long did she suffer?” A moment later, Grady screamed so loudly, the sound wasn’t even human; it was more the pealing cry of a black crow.

challenging emotional medium-paced

Took me much longer to read than the other books in the series. Not sure if that has to do with less interest in this one or life was just busy. Either way, it ended well and I will eventually finish the series. haha.
