Honestly loved this. I took off a star because some of the humor based on being mean about others' appearances made me sad, but I guess that's middle school/children's book series written in the early-to-mid '00s. Other than the Mean Comedy, this was great.

Favorite weird line: "I saw the principal talking to Miss Anderson who is a teacher and therefore old, but is beautiful enough to be a waitress.”

This book is a collection of diary entries from the main character, Jamie Kelly. Jamie is a middle schooler who pours her snarky thoughts onto its pages. Her thoughts run the gamut from dogs to crushes to enemies and everything in between. Overall, I found this book enjoyable and engaging to read. Jamie reminded me of Junie B. Jones, as they both have a certain level of snark.

This is a quick read for young children. The main setting places the students in middle school. But, students younger than that can love this book series.

★★

DNF on page 26 of my reread. As much as this book series influenced me so much as a kid in terms of keeping my own diaries and reading more books, it just doesn't hold up today. It has some of the worst fat-shaming I've seen in a middle grade and I'm v sad about it. Defs won't be passing this one on to my children, that's for sure lol.

trigger warnings: TERRIBLE fat shaming, slut shaming, potentially racist content?
