The ending was terrible and like many readers, I loathed the decision to end the series that way. This final book also felt very flat in the final confrontation. The characters themselves felt very flat and Darren didn't seem to develop much up until the very end. Nonetheless, I enjoyed reading this series and came to love many characters along the way.

This is a brilliant ending to the series – somewhat heart-breaking in places, but brilliant nonetheless.

Everything is brought about in this ending, every single question answered. Even though it is the last book there are still twists thrown in to keep the reader on the edge of their seat, sitting with their mouth hanging open as things click together in their mind. The ending itself is beautifully tragic, in a way that you will either love it or you will have hoped for something more. Personally, I liked the way it ended but I know that not everyone did.

I absolutely despised the ending to the series. Just so anticlimactic.
The Cirque du Freak saga started so strong and limped into the finish. I can't help but feel that the Author didn't have any sort of plan past the original three books.

So incredibly , fantastically, good! I loved every minute of every book and this ending was so mind blowing! I love how Darren left his readers with hope and intrigue. I definitely recommend to all!

The best end ever😍
I don't know why some people think it is a bad end. I think it was perfect. This end connected Darren's story to the reality so that you feel all the story is true somehow. This is what I name:"a big success".
I I believed it in so far as I am looking for a vampire around me to make me into a vampire. I really really want to see the vampires mountain! It would be so exciting!

Yeah the Cirque du Freak ends here. I had so much fun reading this series. Twelve books. Almost two years of reading, one every two months more or less. This is a middle-grade series that deserve to be more talk about even if its dated a bit. It has everything I love in children literature. Great characters, action, good plot and twists, which, I mean is also what I like in adult books. I just feel like too often the action, the horror and even the violence is often hide or not present at all. But children can take some, that won't traumatize them and that could even bring them into reading more for some. I'm not saying we should get bloody and gory all over, but a small dose, when it serves the story is totally fine and acceptable. I also like the way the author wrap it up, end it all with this one, it was a nice way to do so. I loved it and now I want to discover more from this author (I know he has written a bunch of series on various names, both children and adult books, just got to think and pick one up).

I personally loved the ending. Sure it pissed me off at first, but then I started thinking. This is probably the best ending I have ever read. You know exactly what happens afterwards, because nothing changed. You can even think that the books written is his journal published. Hence why the Author named his main character after himself. The ending is just perfect.

I first read this series when I was much younger. Either middle school or high school, I forget which.
Then, a few years later, I started a reread of the series. Partially to see how the books felt now that I was a bit older, and partially because I wanted to get books that I had read and enjoyed onto goodreads for posterity.
I marked [b:A Living Nightmare|8962|A Living Nightmare (Cirque Du Freak, #1)|Darren Shan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1308953294s/8962.jpg|724928] as read in 2015. As I recall, I reread that series all the way up to the second to last book shortly thereafter. But then, I stopped partway through [b:Lord of the Shadows|8949|Lord of the Shadows (Cirque Du Freak, #11)|Darren Shan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1388251260s/8949.jpg|846981] and it sat there on my "Currently Reading" section for years before, a few months ago, I decided I should clear it. So I read that. And now, months later, and I've finally finished rereading the final book of the series.

In a way, the fact that I waited so long to do this almost makes it line up with the story itself. The end of a journey (though mine was much less harrowing than Darren's. Especially since I already knew what was coming).
And I think, because of that, and the nostalgia of the series as a whole (I quite enjoy the vampire lore of this world), I'm extra affected by the ending, which I remember blowing my mind during that first read, and which almost felt like coming home. Which is interesting considering that I hadn't really thought of this series as being one of my favorites. I definitely enjoyed it, but it's not one that I would've readily suggested people read. Partially because it's something of an acquired taste, as well as the fact that it's not without it's problems. Mainly, it's a fairly juvenile perspective, which resonated with me when I was younger but was very obvious now that I'm older. But if that and the relative goriness don't put you off of it, you'll probably find a very rewarding read.
But like I said, I enjoyed the lore of it, and the story itself, and the characters I ended up remembering quite fondly.
So yeah, this could be a serious contender for my top 10. If I ever get around to making that list.
