book 12! we did it!

this is a great conclusion to the saga, but it does not erase the fact that i grew VERY bored with this story around book 5 or 6 (i dont remember which one it was since there were so many!)

to me, the first arc (first 3 books) were the most interesting, and then it all got a bit too long. there were a lot of characters, but very few i actually cared about (darren was an ok protagonist but never that interesting); i would say that my favorites were mr crepsley (i feel like thats a pretty common one among readers of this saga) and steve. steve might seem like a strange pick but i felt like he was the most fleshed out character of the bunch, and at the end of the day i do love me a weird tortured villain. i will also point out that there are definitely not enough female characters

the writing was good, at times great, but mostly just good. i appreciated the way the author set up and planned everything though!

i cant help but wonder what it would have been like to read these as a child, though i dont think they were ever translated in italian, which is my mother tongue. im sure the experience of reading this story wouldnt have been the same and i might have appreciated some aspects of it more as a child. but im still glad i read it!

6/23/08: 5⭐️

Lots of people seem to hate the ending of this series. I surprisingly loved it. I think everything came very neatly full circle. It wasn’t a happy ending which is why I liked it. Lots of books end with “happy ever after” so I tend to love the books that end in a less appealing way. It’s unexpected and much more real to me.
Anyway I enjoyed this series as a whole and would be curious to look into this authors other works.

Well what can I say - I wish I could give this book a five I really do but no! It's the ending I mean what was with that!!!!
I was really enjoying this book, and if I am very honest did not expect Darren's death after his "finale" with Steve which I quite liked you it was different it surprised the reader (even though I had figured everything else out) but It should have ended there! You know maybe a wee over view during his death you know that he went to paradise, But no it got delayed and instead twisted the WHOLE story round so that what happened to Darren is now not going to happen its going to happen to someone else and that they had foiled Destiny - you didn't its going to happen anyway! So after that there was then an extremely weak ending, and I hate to be saying this and coming across as very judgmental but you know I'm disappointed - I loved this series and was expecting a big ending a GOOD ending to match the 11 other amazing books. And it would have been if not for the crap ending!
And whilst we are on the topic of disappointment ( last bad thing I am going to say) What the hell was the deal in chapter 19 - I mean really??? The whole persona of maybe he will become a successful author and change the names and have a best selling novel yada yada yada..... I know this is written for the more younger reader but that was just taking the biscuit! I mean come on! That was just uggggghhhh!!

Anyway...... Rant over!! And bad points aside and onto the good - this book at the beginning was very good there was a lot of suspense and build to keep the reader engrossed within which I enjoyed and I couldn't wait to find out the big finale but you know.......

Over all (the series as a whole) it was brilliant!! I loved this series and would recommend it because it has everything! It is just so different from the usual vampire stories which I loved, the whole world and the idea around it was brilliant I just wish Darren Shan had thought through his finale a lot more and maybe gave the series the ending it truly deserved

I'm confused by the ending and that's the only reason it's a middle-of-the-road rating. I feel like... IDK MAN WHAT A POINTLESS ENDING????

So I've read the whole series "The Saga of Darren Shan " but I'm writing the review under this one cuz it's the last one of this series.

It was so freaking interesting. It is the first English book series I started reading (excluding vampire diaries) and I've read so many books after this one.

So if this can convince me to read, it can make me start reading. If you love fantasy, vampires, and different creatures it's a definite series for you.

Loved it. It stated at the start of the first book ' cirque DU freak" that it's based on true events, but I don't think that it is. I think it's purely fictional but still amazing.

The ending... I understand what the author was going for in giving a happy ending and making it meta, but I do wish it ended differently. I almost wish it stopped after part 1 and then we follow a different character. Or just having it be the end. But I think Darren Shan wrote himself into a corner and had to do the best he could. That being said, the parallel between the start and end of this series was actually pretty well thought out.
