I came across this book at work, read it in one setting, and cried.

Fantastic graphic about Black hair that is very much needed for today's youth. Not my place to critique but I found it a beautiful story with a heartwarming message. Illustrations were very colorful and lovely.

Okay, I loved this and would highly recommend. Its meant for middle grade but it did such a good job talking about natural hair and the struggles that come with it. I found myself getting very emotional and relating to several different characters in the story. Natural hair is a journey. I did get really frustrated tho and it did a YA/Middle grade thing that I really hate but I still enjoyed it overall.

I loved this story! I thought it did a really great job of addressing multigenerational trauma, colorism, racism, grief, the challenge of being a tween, and the challenge of wanting to be yourself but that self not fitting in with cultural norms. I was blown away by how well this story addressed those topics without feeling forced or preachy and without glossing over them too quickly, super impressed that a YA graphic novel could do that in such a short story! Also loved the illustrations and I loved all of the characters, they felt so real.
