The first half of the book was better than the second. It got a bit convoluted with too many characters for my taste.

Yeah, I know, "guilty pleasure" and all that, but I truly did enjoy this entire series and my rating is for the whole of it. And yeah, I did read all 13 of them plus one book from a spin-off series so that's how much I've enjoyed it.
Obviously, some books were better than others and I liked some characters while I wasn't so keen on others but there are a few things I've found refreshing, to wit:

1. the fact that I've managed to read all 13 without feeling like I'm reading a rehashed version with a slightly different setting than the previous book. While true that there are always similarities, the abundance of different races, different backgrounds and generally different takes on the same story helped a lot to make a special instance of each of the books.

2. I loved the humor, it is silly, sometimes way too cliche and obvious but it fits, it makes supernatural beings a lot more fun.

3. the existence of an arc, a story which encompasses the whole series and it is evident in most of the books along with the specific story. Sometimes I felt like the main arc was...well...main and the story of that particular volume was indeed just a side story. Also, it keeps most of the characters in, the ones you get to know in the beginning, they keep showing up (them or their close companions and/or relatives), a fact which made the entire experience much better.

4. Nix ('nuff said)

I read this book because of Ali Hazelwood. She's my favorite author, and she noted that Bride was inspired by this novel. I can definitely see the similarities, but there's a totally different plot and vibe. There's some dub con in this book that made me cringe, especially at the beginning. I liked the character arcs of both the MMC and FMC. The spice was good once you got past the dub con areas, and the plot was also good. Well written. I haven't read any of the other books in this large series as I'm not typically into fantasy, but my interest is piqued.

I hate myself for this one, a little bit. Entertaining? Yes. Cheesy and a bit problematic? Also yes.

Check your TW’s; there’s a lot of non-con in this.

This book was not for me. Honestly all the main characters were terrible--I hated both Lachlain and Emma, they're awful. The Valkyries are fantastic, I wish they were in the book more. Content warnings: rape/sexual assault, dubious consent, kidnapping
