I enjoyed the horror aspects of this book, and there were parts that thoroughly disturbed me. I think it just got a little muddy and confusing, trying too hard. Overall, I finished it and thought it was good, but not great.

THE BOOK OF ACCIDENTS centers around a family that, although they love each other deeply, suffers a plethora of problems. Nate, Maddie, and Oliver have collectively decided to move into Nate’s childhood home after his abusive father passes away. That is when their real problems truly start and boy does it just rev up fast, never slowing down until the last word at the very end. I have stated on my Twitter when I started THE BOOK OF ACCIDENTS was how intimidating the book seemed at first. Quickly I learned that to be not the case at all, the words just carried the story flawlessly. The first night that I started reading THE BOOK OF ACCIDENTS, I was so pulled into what was happening that I got about 30% in and 4 hours of sleep. That might not say much but the book itself is about 80 chapters long (81 if you count epilogue ) and is thick like his other book WANDERERS. The character development between Nate, Maddie, Oliver, and the rest of the characters (no spoilers) was beautifully done, the story was fulfilling, and the antagonist was one big baddie. It was so much fun to read that I have actually read it twice to make sure that I wasn’t just oggling Wendig because of his status as an author, it was a genuinely enthralling read. I wouldn’t be all too surprised if it ended up on everyone’s favorite of 2021 lists because it is certainly going to be on mine. Happy Reading! x

such a well thought out / complete story with surprising connections to the past and future; wholesome messaging with the main family about overcoming life long issues
