While I started this with trepidation and mild disinterest after being quite underwhelmed by the first book, the intrigue has finally entered the chat in the second installment of this series. The first 1/3 did throw me into a reading slump where I didn’t pick it up for nearly a week which is unheard of for me.
Luka’s development was the highlight, and it was gratifying for Tessa to finally claim her power and rage a bit more. The witches and bloodlines are interesting with some more background revealed.
However, while we love a well placed endearment or nickname, the males continue to layer on the cringe referring to all female characters by anything but their names. “Baby doll, kitten, little one, clever tempest?” These all made me physically recoil. At one point the face I was making made my husband laugh and ask what was wrong.

Twist!
This has the best intro ever it is so much personality even though I didn't know who the characters were.
overall it is Still heavy emotionally . A hint of additional love interests. Theon is aggravating in his secrets are for your protection. I want what I want and can't listen to you and then be upset when it goes bad. axel gets his own POV . we have our friendships playing in differently some seem genuine and some less so. More political backstabbing and secrets. Interested to see where it goes.
