I liked this one because I found Jimmy and Dash, who were big focuses in this one, a lot more interesting than Erik and Roo, who were big focuses in the previous few. Because I found the characters interesting it gave back some of the magic of the series I felt in the beginning, but this book 4 was a lot of aftermath and set up for more to come after what felt like a weak climax. It does the job well enough that it makes me want to continue the series and feel that it looks promising when I had nearly wanted to put it down and only possibly return at a later date.

I have been Buddy-Reading this series over the last couple of months with a ‘book-club’ friend who had not read Raymond E. Feist’s work before. As I have been a long-time fan of his work, I have compared it to The Lord of the Rings books but have actually enjoyed this series more. When I mentioned this to my friend, she immediately wanted to read the series, and convinced me to read them with her- not that it was a big ask 😊.
It is an epic fantasy saga- with wonderful world building and scene setting, and dynamic, vivid and detailed descriptions that will transport you right into the story.
Take some time to explore Mr. Feist’s work, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed- and the best part is that all the books are available now to read- no waiting for books to be released! #WINNING

3.5 stars. I liked reading about the brothers in this. It was good to see something from their point of view. In saying that, I felt there were still many questions left unanswered in this which I would have liked to have known. Still, over all, an enjoyable book and an enjoyable series!

The first 80% of Shards of a Broken Crown is pretty good. Multi-front military campaign, build up of big enemy threats, getting to know characters as they go from one danger to the next. But in the last few chapters it felt like things just sort of fizzled. Sure, the good guys end up with a win (if you think that's a spoiler, you're reading the wrong genre), but it doesn't feel like they expend any real effort doing so. You can tell way in advance who are the really important characters that will survive, and who is going to be collateral damage. The whole book felt like it was tacked on as an afterthought.
