For the first two chapters, I couldn't remember if I had read this book before, so the first essay was very meta. The collection overall struck me as cute--not in the saccharine sense, but Ephron skirts things like the privilege of being Hollywood royalty, the slide of age, and the pains of divorce with just enough bony sarcasm to impart a fleeting charm that, once gone, doesn't leave much to contemplate.
