Lovely overview of the Angels’ explosion in popularity and Thompson’s time with them.

It was interesting, especially reading it now where all these tough biker dudes doing heinous things, saying “that’s just how we live man” and pretending to just be neutral partygoers when in all actuality they’re losers that immediately started taking things super far to try to live up to what the media says they are. Near the end of the book they talk about how unamerican the Vietnam protests were when the entire book featured tons of the members constantly said that their country had it out for them and hated them. An oxymoron in of itself that represents the entire group so well.

This book took quite some time to finish... with numerous stops and starts. I'm unsure if it was due to a busy schedule, a lack of the vivid thrills present in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, or just a disconnect with the subject material. I certainly appreciate the glimpse into an obsolete lifestyle popular decades past, but am unsure I would read again. Despite this, Thompson's continual imagery is always enjoyable.

Intriguing portrait of an outlaw group. The last main section detailing a motorcycle ride is perfect.
