I didn't like "On The Road". It was too scattered. But this one I loved.

I read this book while on a road trip in Norway. I doubt I could've chosen a better time and a place to read this book: hiking up mountains and meditating on the shores of the fjords.

The struggle of Kerouac (Ray Smith) to understand his own dual sides is prevalent in the book all the time. Kerouac was a city-going and extroverted party-lover on one side and on the other side a quiet contemplating adventure-goer who cherished simple life in the woods. This was something I could relate to whole heartedly.

Someone said to me that you shouldn't read Kerouac when you're young, but only when you're turning older. You can then look back at the adventures you had while reading his writings. I think this might be true. Maybe I was too young when I read "On The Road". I should probably try reading that one again now.

Nice short read, i liked this more than On The Road. Less action but more introspection, and an obviously flawed but very personal view of buddhism. more than anything, this book just made me want to go hiking or camping. a book that makes me want to do something is always good.

Very beautiful and picturesque. A little offputting with the repetitive throwing around of meaningful words. Ray is relatable. He's a child navigating . The book made me want to visit mountains.

I’m a working man in my prime

No Rants, No Raves, was simply okay.

think this is my favourite Kerouac…
