This would’ve been a five star read but I feel like it was lacking to elicit the same feelings as the other Boys of Tommen books.

Let me start with Lizzie Young because I have some things to say about her. She’s basically like the boring, more useless Nesta Archeron of the Boys of Tommen series.

Lizzie made fun of Katie’s ED, which already was crossing the line. You NEVER make fun of eating disorder. Then she called Gibsie a rapist, which he isn’t, then proceeded to say he wasn’t and that he was just related to one.

Don’t even get me started on how she was adamant the her sister was raped but not Gibsie when Caoimhe literally saw Mark raping Gibsie. Like her victim mentality pisses me off.

Also, the way Gibsie’s rape was just brushed past instead of actually talked about pisses me off. It’s so rare that anyone writes about men getting assaulted and the one time it actually is, it get swept under the rug.

Moving on to Shannon. I loved her so much but the way she was excusing Lizzie’s behavior was so annoying, saying “Hurt people hurt people”. Like yes, but Gibsie was also a hurt person and he was still a good person. Hell, Shannon herself was abused and still managed to be a good person. Lizzie has no excuses. Trauma is a reason, not an excuse.

That’s all I have to say.

Might be my favourite of the series even though I skipped the middle two. Author does a good job of subtly setting up the next book as I assume it’s about the brother’s actions towards the end of the book. Only one in the series to make me ball my eyes out.
